Quote of the Day #19

Philosopher David Berlinski, using a cathedral as an analogy, describes the tendency of the 21st century Western world to relegate religion to an artifact of the past

“Every now and then careless tourists, with no sense of its weight in history, dismiss the cathedral as so much antique stone. ‘What is its point?’ they ask. They snap pictures and they’re gone. How little they understand.”

-David Berlinski

  1. Even as an atheist, I can appreciate the architecture, the grandeur, of the Hagia Sophia or the Washington National Cathedral in DC. I can also appreciate the comfort that some find in their religion. In places like grand cathedrals, I can feel the serenity and history contained within the walls. Sad that not everyone sees it that way
